If only the giver(s) could tell in advance whether their gift would fall within the useless category. It would be nice to reduce the risk of useless presents. But then we might end of not giving anything at all. Or perhaps, if the receiver already has everything they need, then why not give a needed gift to someone who really needs one. Then you could just send a card to your friend saying "Happy Christmas. I gave your present to someone who really needs it!"
